Disney is moving forward with its plans to up its technology game by hiring India-born Karandeep Anand as the company’s first chief technology officer.
\n\nAnand was most recently CEO of Character.AI, the same company that Disney itself was accusing of “blatantly infringing” on Disney copyrights. Disney even sent the company a cease-and-desist letter ordering that it remove Disney’s content from the AI platform.
\n\nDespite the confrontation, Disney has now made Anand its senior executive vice president and chief technology officer.
\n\nAnand, who grew up in India, according to the New York Times, has added that he intends to bring on members of his Character.AI team at Disney.
\n\nBefore heading up Character.AI, he was president and chief product officer of financial technology company Brex. Before that he had senior product and engineering leadership roles at Microsoft where he spent 15 years as part of the team that built the Azure cloud-computing platform.
