Sam Altman’s OpenAI has announced it is ending developer access to its models on Cursor, the popular coding assistant that Elon Musk’s SpaceX acquired earlier this month. The AI rivals have been locked in a bitter feud for a decade.
\n\nCNBC reports that OpenAI set a proposed shutoff date in November and said it won’t supply Cursor with any future models as the agreement winds down. According to financial filings, SpaceX completed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor on August 14.
\n\nOpenAI models account for roughly 5 percent of Cursor’s user traffic, Cursor CEO Michael Truell said in a post on X Friday night. “OpenAI models serve about 5% of Cursor user traffic, and we’re speaking with the OpenAI team to resolve this. Cursor was one of the very first users of OpenAI, we’ve worked closely with their team for years, and we’ve trusted their platform to be neutral infrastructure for our business,” Truell wrote.
