A new poll finds that even as more Americans turn to AI tools in their daily lives, most remain deeply uneasy about where the technology is taking the country. An overwhelming 69 percent of respondents oppose AI data centers being built in their area.
\n\nNBC News reports that 70 percent of adults say they’re more worried about AI than excited about it, according to the NBC News Decision Desk survey conducted online among 7,105 adults from August 20 to September 1.
\n\nAbout two-thirds of respondents say AI poses high risks to society, and a similar share oppose building an AI data center in their own community. Eighty-one percent say the government isn’t doing enough to regulate the technology.
\n\nNone of that has slowed adoption down. 52 percent say they use AI tools very often or sometimes, up six points from a June 2025 survey. The share using AI “very often” has climbed to 23 percent, up from 14 percent a year earlier. Trust hasn’t kept pace: just 18 percent say they can trust AI-generated information most or almost all of the time.
