Over 3,500 Brazilian voters had their votes deemed “null” in Sunday’s presidential election for having written their preferred candidate as “Six Seven” on their electronic voting machine, the Brazilian outlet Poder 360 reported on Thursday.
\n\nBrazilian elections are no stranger to humor or parodies and Sunday’s general elections were no different. However, in addition to the presence of several “joke” or protest candidates, the “Six Seven” social media trend appears to have had a minor appearance in the first round of the presidential election, the results of which automatically triggered an October 25 runoff between conservative Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and incumbent socialist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
\n\nPoder 360 reported that 3,539 of the more than 125 million votes cast in Sunday’s presidential election were for the number “67,” which did not correspond to any of the presidential candidates who appeared in Sunday’s ballot, each one of whom has his or her own number.
\n\nPoder 360 pointed out that it is impossible to determine which of the 3,539 “Six Seven” presidential votes cast were entered because of the viral trend, which ones were input as a form of protest, and which ones were genuine mistakes.
\n\nFor 30 years, Brazil…
