Iran’s top security official warned President Donald Trump on Monday that the strategic balance around the region’s critical waterways has changed, ruling out negotiations until Tehran’s sweeping conditions are met and declaring that American “damage control won’t stop what’s coming.”
\n\n“Don’t get distracted by the U.S. president’s mixed signals — from ‘no negotiations’ to ‘we’re ready to talk,’” Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s powerful Supreme National Security Council, wrote on X.
\n\n“The stakes around oil and the straits have changed. Damage control won’t stop what’s coming,” he continued.
\n\n“No talks until Iran’s conditions are met. Period!”
\n\nThe ultimatum carries added weight following Rezaei’s recent elevation to secretary of the powerful security body, reportedly at the direction of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Rezaei also serves as the supreme leader’s representative on the council, placing him at the center of Tehran’s national security decision-making.
\n\nHis warning came hours after Trump opened the door to possible engagement with Tehran, saying Iran wants an agreement “quickly and badly” while emphasizing that he has not yet decided whether Washington will enter talks.
