Host government India announced on Thursday that the annual BRICS summit, bringing together leaders of the anti-American coalition’s countries, would take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, setting the stage for potentially the most tumultuous summit yet.
\n\nThis year’s high-level summit is themed “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” and the Indian External Affairs Ministry insisted that it would, as host, focus on “the spirit of ‘Humanity First.'” The announcement did not specify any particular issues the parties would discuss, limiting itself to “global and regional matters of mutual importance.”
\n\n“Under India’s Chairship this year, over 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been held in over 25 cities across India to further strengthen the BRICS strategic partnership across three fundamental pillars,” the Indian foreign ministry explained, “political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.”
\n\n“Through these engagements, and business-to-business and people-to-people initiatives, India’s BRICS Chairship has contributed to advancing BRICS cooperation through practical and development-oriented outcomes,” its announcement concluded.
